Historic Preservation in Dallas {Architectural Photography}

Usually, when I photograph architecture, it is for newer construction and modern renovations. I definitely love modern architecture, but I also love seeing efforts to preserve architectural history in our city and admire how Preservation Dallas honors the work done by Dallas businesses to preserve and revitalize our city.

A few years ago, I photographed the Dallas Municipal Court building at 2014 Main Street for GSR Andrade Architects after they did extensive renovations of the building. That project was selected for an award from Preservation Achievement Award in 2014.

More recently I was honored to photograph the exterior renovations of the connected building at 106 S. Harwood for the Conley Group. It is a beautiful building that is being redesigned as the future home of the University of North Texas Dallas College of Law. Although it is still currently under construction, I'm eager to share some of the details completed by the Conley Group on the exterior. Like it's neighbor, this project was also submitted and selected for a Preservation Achievement Award and will receive an award in May. Congratulations to all who worked on this renovation!

This beautiful building was originally designed by C. D. Hill in the Beaux-Arts style and completed in 1913.

Farrell Dining Hall at PVAMU {Architectural Photography}

Prairie View A&M University's new Farrell Dining Hall sports an industrial chic interior that blends bold colors with warm wood accents. It upholds the University's legacy and history while making an exciting new dining atmosphere for students. GSR Andrade Architects preserved and highlighted historical aspects of the existing building by incorporating the original laundromat scale as a feature in the dining space and created a vibrant mural depicting the historic campus with an image of the building's namesake, Henrietta Farrell. GSR Andrade and Archer Construction & Design partnered on this modern food hub that also includes a Grab-And-Go deli and laundry facilities to address multiple college student needs.

The Clark Family {Dallas Portraits in Architecture}

Our Dallas skyline is absolutely incredible! Several years ago the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, designed by Santiago Calatrava, made it even more so. I love driving over the bridge in either direction over the Trinity River, especially at night with the top down on my car! The pedestrian Continental Avenue Bridge provides a fantastic view of this skyline architecture and also happens to be a fun spot for portraits. Definitely, a great location that you can even finish up at Trinity Groves for dinner or drinks after the shoot to make an evening of it!

A little while back, The Clarks and I took advantage of a beautiful, warm evening for their family portraits and the boys even enjoyed some climbing on the bridge's park structures. I love the warm light of the setting sun on their faces!  And if you are looking for ways to style your outfits, their oranges and blues with mixed solids and patterns were fantastic!

Tracy Allyn Photography is now booking sessions for spring. Contact the studio to talk about your session, whether it be an urban location like the Clarks chose or in nature. Email photos@tracyallyn.com, call 214.682.3965 or use the contact page.  Weekday and weekend sessions are available.

Modern Home in Kessler Woods {Dallas Architecture}

This gorgeous modern home at 2203 Kessler Woods Ct. in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, Texas is truly a stunner. I was thrilled when the homeowners contacted me to photograph it after they completed some renovations and upkeep to the kitchen and other interior and exterior spaces. They have such great style and their beautiful B&B Italia furniture and extensive modern art collection are featured superbly throughout the home. The use of Prodema wood panels has such warmth and plays well with the glass and brick facades. One of my favorite viewpoints is the way the kitchen and living area open to the pool on one end and give you a feeling of being in a tree house at the dining room. Everywhere you walk inside seems like you can see a connection to the other spaces giving a sense of wholeness floating throughout the three floors. The third floor deck has a beautiful view of the Dallas skyline. The house was designed by Hammers + Partners: Architecture, Inc and is part of the Kessler Woods community of modern homes.

Tracy Allyn Photography photographs architectural interiors and exteriors in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area, around the state of Texas, and is also available for travel nationwide. Ave 900 {GSR Andrade Architects}

It isn't often enough that I post architectural image projects on my blog. And yes, I really need to change that! Recently, I photographed Ave 900, a multi-family complex in Euless, Texas for GSR Andrade Architects. The team designed some really nice spaces for their tenants, such as a fantastic pool area, hip clubhouse, nice picnic area, and dog parks for big and little dogs. Check out a few of the images below.
